I have lived in Guilford nearly my entire life. It is my home, my parents’ home, and my great grandmother’s home before that. Guilford has a old-world charm that you simply cannot find anywhere else in the city. Things move slowly here. It has quirks and charm and flaws like any place. I love walking my dogs around the neighborhood on a Saturday night and seeing that nearly all the homes have turned off lights and gone to bed by 10pm :) I make fun of it sometimes for not being as hip as other neighborhoods, but I can’t imagine growing up in a more lovely place.
There have been a few crimes as of late, but security is well-maintained in the area because of its proximity to a large institution. As this appeals to a large proportion of undergraduate students attending local universities, investment in safety measures is at the forefront of discussions about the neighborhood.
Such a wide variety in the area, many renting options in large buildings or row homes. Richer areas have huge houses and large lawns, but many live in closely packed multi-story row homes, which are spacious in general but tightly packed. Rent prices are high, but not as high as other cities.
