I love this neighborhood so much that after 3 years of renting, we bought a house two blocks over. Greenfield is relatively quiet, but close to everything in this city! Very walkable, and places to get to on foot like the neighborhood pool, baseball field, playground, Schenley Park, a couple of bars and restaurants. I can easily walk to Squirrel Hill and have a ton of options for restaurants and cafes but at half the house cost. Easy to any of the hip neighborhoods on the East End, plus also The Waterfront, and Southside. Bike trail very close and many dedicated bike Lanes in East End.
Things can happen anywhere, but I've not heard of any major criminal activity. I keep my house armed, as I would anywhere.
I lean toward liberal views but also moderate on some things. I believe there is a nice mix of political opinions and definitely diversity. I love having neighbors from around the world!
People walk and ride bikes a lot, many with their dogs or kids, sometimes even a cat!

I have lived in Greenfield for 38 years. Raised my children here. It is a friendly neighborhood. Good Schools. Active neighborhood for kids. Baseball, playgrounds, swimming pool, basketball.
The community is active. With 4th of July races for all ages. Prizes for the winners. Goodies for everyone. National night out picnics. Holiday Parade, with fireworks, bands etc.
and great views of the city as well as Mt Washington, Southside , Oakland Etc

There is a fundamental lack of basic respect for others in the neighborhood, which is incredibly disappointing. People are "nebby," prone to assumption, and passive-aggression is a huge issue. (Just look at the app Nextdoor or the group on Facebook.)
The rate of crime has gone up recently, with frequent reports of people breaking into cars parked on the street as well as and increase in theft of packages from residents' porches.
Despite being a beautiful neighborhood filled with some gorgeous old houses, hostile neighbors have made it next to impossible to enjoy any privacy or peace.
Truly looking for positive change in the future. We're all human beings. It's time for a return to civility which will require neighbors to start treating each other with kindness and understanding. I believe that Greenfield is capable of this and that hope sustains me as a resident.
