I've only lived here for 9 months, and It's definitely been a culture shock from where I lived in Floriduh. For the most part it's been Great! (The people, the area, the safeness). Unfortunately, when neighbors rent out housing in their backyards not all the right quality of people move in. My dog and I were recently assaulted by a mentally ill renter who has been a problem for the past couple of months. I'm trying not to let one delinquent ruin my overall opinion of the area. I grew up in Detroit and never had an experience like this. All the rest of my neighbors have been overly nice and friendly. It would be nice if the police were a little more proactive on the side of the law abiding citizen than the criminals though. It seems like they have more rights than the decent residents that own and pay taxes, unfortunately.....
At least my dogs love the beaches and constant new daily adventures in perfect weather with the many streets and Beautiful parks to explore.

North Park is a large and covers one of the oldest areas of San Diego. It is adjacent to the northeast side of Balboa Park and affords many residents quick access to this beloved park. Many houses in North Park were built in the early 1900's so some of the streets are lined with lovely bungalows and Spanish style cottages. In some areas, zoning laws have allowed for multiple apartment dwellings on lots where a single family homes once sat. These streets can be congested and difficult to find parking. Recently the mayor and city council carved out bike corridors around San Diego including North Park and at break-neck speed which solved one problem but created new ones with very limited parking on one of the major thoroughfares (30th Street) that has many businesses, pubs and restaurants. These cars are now forced to park in residential areas and this has angered many of my neighbors. It's made it nearly impossible for those with mobility issues to get to places they once enjoyed.
North Park is one of the most walkable neighborhoods in California and its proximity to downtown gives you access to the best of both worlds. Solid restaurants, bars, and even music venues make every day their interesting. Since its next to Balboa Park, you have access to even more amenities and outdoor space.
The only downside is the homelessness, but that’s a California problem and shouldn’t be counted against North Park.
