Great neighborhood! I feel very safe and welcome. It is very pricey and hard to find affordable housing. On the flip side, there is subsidized housing nearby which sometimes causes gun violence and I seen police cars often.
I love living downtown but the diversity and real estate accessibility is obviously pretty limited. I've attended public schools locally in Lincoln Park my entire life, which is close by to Gold Coast, but even so, the diversity and integration of multiple cultures is limited due to the fact that there is a lot of deeply rooted segregation in Chicago as well as rapidly occurring gentrification in my many neighborhoods aside from Gold Coast. I have been fortunate enough to live in a safe area with a lot of things to do, such as easy beach access, conveniently located stores, and generally a lively environment. I live across the street from and my window overlooks a park so I've always enjoyed the physical environment I am surrounded by. Additionally, I have 3 train lines all in quick walking distance from me so I've found commuting to be very easy in my neighborhood.
Gold Coast is a safe neighborhood. It has numerous nearby education institutions. It is child friendly in terms of recreation. It is below average in terms of affordability but worth it in terms of your money. It is only a 10 minute drive from downtown meaning you are in the heart of the city. Everything you need is nearby and accessible. It is very close to the lake making it easy to experience in the summer. There is numerous forms of transportation from busses, to the L train, and taxis to choose from nearby. There are many things to do in terms of tourist attractions nearby from visiting Millennium Park to walking down Rush street to grab a bite to eat. In Gold Coast the diversity is very below average seeing as the community is made of upper class caucasian individuals. The night life is incredible with the amount of restaurants and shops nearby. It is also quiet at night even with such a booming night life.
