Gage Park is a neighborhood in the south-west side of Chicago. I've lived here my whole life and naturally, I believe everything is great. However, something I have come to realize is that its not as safe as I probably thought it was. I'm not allowed to walk alone, even during the day due to the dangers there are. The majority of my community are Hispanic/Latino and African Americans, including myself. Even though it may be wary, I'm proud of my community because, in the past decade, there has been a lot of change. People are putting effort into their community and are slowly molding Gage Park into a more positive and inviting environment for others. I hope for more change to come and opportunities for others to visit my neighborhood.

I've been a part of the Gage Park community ever since I was born. Being born and raised in Chicago I have seen and experienced many things, some of which other peers, colleagues may relate to. Throughout my years living in the Gage Park community, I have built bonds with people who are still in my life today. The people in my community have always been welcoming to us and other families. There isn't much violence that happens within the Gage Park area. However, Chicago has always been victim to gun and gang violence. This has made my community stronger in a sense, whenever there are problems or someone is in trouble, the people within my community makes sure that no one is left behind and everybody has each others backs.
Great schools, great local shops and budding development. Between the Kedzie Orange Line, and the 55 and the 52A buses taking you along the main 55th Street and Kedzie Av. thoroughfares, you can commute very easily to wherever you need to go. Don't forget to stop by the local La Michoacana delicacy shops! They're a real treat.
