I have been living in Francisville for over six years now and have no intentions on leaving. Francisville is a small neighborhood in North Philadelphia. On maps it stands out as a triangle neighboring the popular Fairmount District. As a green space lover, I enjoy being near Lemon Hill, having a neighborhood park and community garden. I also enjoy having many shops and restaurants nearby. There is a bike shop, coffee shop, hardware store, pet store, a ceramics studio and the list goes on. The history of this neighborhood is also remarkable. The country’s first penitentiary is a couple of blocks away and hosts a haunted house every Halloween. One thing I feel could improve is a greater sense of closeness among neighbors. This is slowly starting to become a reality as the Francisville continues to hold community meetings with a growing attendance rate.

An up and coming neighborhood. Some neighbors care a lot about their yards, sidewalks and streets while others are less conscientious. New housing and retail developments are going in all the time, so there is a lot of construction. But fewer empty lots or abandoned buildings is good in my opinion. There is one large park that had a pop-up pool open last summer. There are great restaurants, cafés, and drugs stores but we are lacking a full-scale grocery store in the actual neighborhood.
Diversity. Close to downtown. Close to museums & parks. Growing retail and restaurants - and the best type - the small locally own stores, not the big box types.
