The experience you can have living in East Liberty is dependent on your income level. The neighborhood is divided between very poor and very wealthy. There is some racial tension for sure. Penn Ave is used for protest marches often and has been the site of some vandalism. The amenities are excellent, everything is within walking distance, very "walkable" neighborhood. Disability friendly for sure. Great access to public transportation. Lots of road noise, people driving too aggressively, Penn Ave and Center Ave are long stretches, so it makes sense. Traffic can get pretty bad, but there are plenty of side streets to avoid the major traffic. Great neighborhood to live if you work or go to school in Oakland, Downtown, and other major areas.

East Liberty is constantly growing and changing every month. The East Liberty Development Group is doing a great job with changing the landscape of this lost shopping district. The company has revamped East Liberty into a new shopping, eating, and living space that has totally revived the community and the adjoining neighborhoods. Everything is in close proximity. You can walk, drive, or commute by bus.
