I grew up in this area and its a very loud at night and no organic stores only a lot of fast-food chains.
I really enjoy living in this neighborhood as there are friendly people and easy access to cultural goods.
There's a lot of diversity and everyone is nice to everyone else for the most part. There are a lot of disturbances but those are easily handled.
As long as you mind your business and have good intentions, you'll be okay. The trains run slow in the morning and are usually crowded. Early is on time and on time is late.
I've lived in this neighborhood all my life and it has so many stores and people. I'm very comfortable in this area.
I love the music played on the streets. All the Caribbean food spots on every corner. Being able to hail a dollar van at any time of the night and day.
I lived in East Flatbush all my life. It has schools, day cares, etc. in walking distance if you would like to send your kids to those schools (middle school, elementary school, etc). It has a lot of stores such as corner stores, and other restaurants that you may like if those are the food you are into to. It doesn't have a variety of healthy options depending on where you go, but there are a few stores that sell organic things or healthy options. there is a lot of means of transportation that is near by, buses, subways, etc. there is parks that is being built for the enjoyment of kids and families during the summers.
The experience here has been pleasurable so far. The only thing is that there not many stores or supermarkets near where I live, but they are one bus ride away.
There are a lot of problems and disparities for people of color, however, it has a very rich Caribbean immigrant community and culture here so it's not too bad.
I would like the neighbors to be more open to others. Children don’t play outside and no one talks to each other so it wouldn’t be a good environment for a child to grow up in.
Since living in East Flatbush, Brooklyn for 4 years I have had a great experience in terms of the community, cultural diversity, safety, living conditions, and commuting. I would definitely recommend living in East Flatbush to anyone who is looking to be well adapted to diversity and have a wide array of access to transportation for commuting.
I would like to see the community improve the schools in the district as well as create affordable housing opportunities for middle class families.
Crime, drugs, crime. Gangs are rampant, don't walk to a deli for a turkey sandwich during your lunch break, you'll end up in a drug den. Yes, this happened to me while working in one of the public elementary schools. I also heard gunshots while leaving late (around 5:00) from my school. There was a gang fight in the schoolyard!! One of the boys in my 4th Grade classroom mentioned it to me the next morning. His older brother was in the fight. One of Dante's circles of hell!! Beautiful brownstones, gorgeous real estate from a bygone era, but you'll take your life in your hands to live in it. Shame!
This is an area made up mostly of West Indian Immigrants from countries such as Guyana, Trinidad, and Haiti. For the most part I do not mingle in my neighborhood or indulge in the nightlife because of safety issues.
It's a decent neighborhood to live in. The improvement that needs to be made are safety of people in the neighborhood and police actually doing their jobs correctly
I loved the diversity of East Flatbush. There are many social events that go on. There are also many restaurants and great transportation. If you love a fun atmosphere then I'd recommend East Flatbush!
East Flatbush is a very nice part of Brooklyn. It has grown a lot. Very safe, and friendly. Lots of stores and transportation around. Plenty of diversity with regards to food, culture and people. Great sites to see, especially in the summer time.
