Living in DC has the immediate issue of not getting representation in Congress but, this neighborhood also has other problems. There are a large number of people experiencing homelessness in the whole city but, especially here and in other downtown areas. This leads to a heavy police presence in the area compounded with frequent road closures. There are a number of nightclubs here and thus Friday and Saturday night don't expect to be able to drive through. Additionally, the clubs draw a lot of drug use and public intoxication. You can walk to some things and the metro station is convenient but, the crime is pretty rampant. The homicide rate in DC has nearly doubled in the last few years which is very unfortunate.
I have enjoyed living in Dupont Circle because of how convenient this neighborhood is. I am fortunate enough to currently be in an economic position that allows me to live here, but frankly the rent is terribly high, and the amount of space you get for that rent is very little. Because of this, Dupont Circle is not a diverse or family friendly neighborhood. I would hope to see more affordable renting options for both individuals and businesses as to allow people from all backgrounds to enjoy the convenience and beauty of this neighborhood.
This is the first neighborhood I've lived in while in Washington DC that feels like a vibrant and unique neighborhood with its own personality. It's conveniently located just north of Downtown, minutes from Georgetown, and public transportation.
