Nice place but many construction going on everyday, Traffic is very bad , low safety because too many homeless. One time they broke on my car and steal my backpack and security was no help. That place need major upgrade . However , it is a very beautiful place , the building, city light, park, and garden . If it wasn’t so hectic all the time downtown is a nice place for hangout either with friends or family. There are also many nice restaurants out there but parking is a pain and there is nothing we can do about it . I would say the most difficult part is finding parking and feeling safe most of the time due to the environment.
My experience in Downtown is that, it is very lively with many things to do and see. There are plenty of restaurants to dine in and sites which includes local events and parks to hang out at. Although there is an abundance of entertainment, the safety is what you need to watch out for the roads may be uneven and busy.
I live in Edo (east downtown), i love the location of where i live, it's right across from the BBVA compass stadium, where the Dynamo play, and it is 2 min away from the minute maid stadium, where the Astros play, and the Toyota center, where the Rockets play. Because i live in sports town there are many bars and restaurants all in walking distance, and discovery green is also up the street from me, there is never a shortage of fun things to do during the summer
