Detroit - Shoreway Reviews
Detroit-Shoreway is not gritty and glorious. From gourmet donuts and beer to the area’s only natural nail salon, it offers posh experiences. With homegrown Near West Theatre, Cleveland Public Theater and Blank Canvas Theater, it has live performances that would garner rave reviews in the biggest cities. With tucked away gems like Stone Mad, 78th Street Studios and Frank’s Falafel House there’s more than meets the eye. From India Flame to Local West, the community is growing and thriving. With super involved, dedicated neighbors who have raised their kids on our streets and aren’t going anywhere else any time soon, we have heart. We take care of our neighbors, we fight for our tree lawn trees, we build gardens and we innovate.
I moved to the Detroit-Shoreway neighborhood in 2009. I was able to afford a small apartment, then bought a home a few years later. This neighborhood is great if you are interested in an ethnically and socially diverse place to live. Like all places, it has it's challenges. As a mid-aged single person, I always find interesting things to do in or near my neighborhood and stay physically active with the lake and multi-purpose paths nearby.
