I love how friendly everyone is. It is a very welcoming. The neighborhood as a whole is very well kept, not only by the neighborhood association, but also by individual house owners themselves. The neighborhood is very kid and family friendly. There are ice cream socials in the park and many blocks have block parties at least once a summer. However, I do think that this neighborhood is not very diverse and is a product of redlining.
Waldo is one of the best places to live in KC. It's a great mix of reasonably affordable starter homes and larger, extravagant, classic homes. As far as houses go this area has some of the most amazing architecture in the whole city. Hit up Google street view and check out the unique Tudor and Prairie houses. This neighborhood is a highly desirable area and once you live here you understand why. This page ranks Waldo as having a crime problem but I've been here for a long time and never had a single incident. I feel totally safe walking around after dark here. This neighborhood does border other neighborhoods with considerably higher crime rates like Marlborough and East Meyer so maybe if you live closer to those borders there could be an issue but in general Waldo is quite safe. The only downfall I can pinpoint is if you have children since there isn't much in the way of public schools. Many over here use private schools instead.
Growing up here, it has been so wonderful to witness my neighborhood evolve. From gaining new restaurants, to making more friends, I feel like I am truly a part of a community. Aside from frequent construction and maintenance, I love it here (especially during the fall as I get to witness the leaves on our many trees change in color!)
