In the past, it was probably not the best but now it is truly an amazing neighborhood. Of course, it depends on what you are looking for but I have been living there for 5 years and I find it safe, I walk at night with no issues, everyone seems friendly, and most importantly, the home values are going up because it is underdoing amazing changes. More businesses are opening and wealthier people are moving in. I can see that because a lot of house are being renovated with modern and appealing looks., also I see nicer luxury parked outside homes which I would not see 5 years ago. It's also a walkable neighborhood. Location is excellent, very central and also great for public transit. I'm planning on staying here for many years to come and witness it's amazing growth!

City Heights is great! With its great diversity, and central location to all the hip spots in San Diego, it’s a diamond in the rough. The hipsters are already here so that’s when you k ow it’s on the rise. It has a reputation as being rough in the past, but I’ve had more issues and seen more crime in downtown, PB, & North Park than in City Heights! It actually ranks lower in crime on average. I love the unique shops, cafes and restaurants and if you’re looking to buy an “affordable” home in San Diego, this is where it’s at, unless you want to be wayyy out east. City Heights is the place to watch!
City Heights is a great up and coming neighborhood! City Heights is a great place to live because you get more diversity and culture than other Urban areas, with less crime. It’s close to everything but still affordable. Hip bars too! It will be the next North Park. There will be trails and green spaces added to Chollas Creek which will be great!
