Beautiful neighborhood close to restaurants, Coffee shops, & parks. Close to downtown but not too close. Homes are unique and built with character. With the new arena and now the Pro soccer coming. This area is going to skyrocket in value.
Sacramento is no longer a city of affordable housing and huge rent increases all over the county makes life for low income, working class, middle class and working poor quite hard. On a positive note we are a great place to live for our three rivers, city of trees, fabulous museums, culture, 2nd Saturday and MOST OF ALL Los Rios Community College District.
A tenant in my apt bldg. was mugged recently. Even though I live in a locked, gated security bldg. in an expensive part of town there are ALWAYS burglars "casing the joint" trying to jump over the security fence and sneak in our bldg. when someone opens the gate to get in or out. HUGE homeless problem, defecating and urinating on the street. Lots of murders, rape, muggings and punk bike thiefs in Midtown and Downton grid. I am seriously considering leaving Midtown and moving somewhere safer like Curtis Park. I don't have much faith in the police, because of the current Chief of Police - Sherrif Jones. He is a RACIST and SEXIST and lacks leadership ability. I hope he is REPLACED. Mayor Kevin Johnson got police endorsement whenever he ran for office, but I saw NO IMPROVEMENT in reducing crime while he was in office. Hopefully the new incoming Mayor, Darrel Steinberg will improve our high crime rate.
I live in the Central City and it has HIGH crime rate. I don't blame it on homeless - mostly they are just a nuisance. The violent crime, burglary is from professional criminals. Bike theft is from drug addicts.
The Grid is far less pleasant place to live because of the so much crime.
I walk with mace pepper spray and will pound the crap out of anyone trying to assault me.
