My neighborhood is very convenient to live in and this comes from a teenager who does not have her own or a family car. There are at least 3 bus lines that run through the neighborhood. There is a street named Cortland st. that has all sorts of stores: local grocery, pet store, high end / more expensive restaurants, low end / affordable restaurants, real estate market, bike store, barber shop, bakeries, nail salons, thrift stores, convenient stores, bars and many more! There is also a beautiful public library and Catholic Church located also on Cortland st. The neighborhood is very quiet and peaceful. There are at least 2 elementary schools in the neighborhood.
Bernal is an incredible neighborhood! Wonderful people and a great walk score. There are restaurants, grocery stores, and great coffee all within walking distance. I do miss the diversity that existed when we first moved in. You can definitely see the effects of Tech's gentrification.
Bernal Heights is a wonderful neighborhood, but it is a difficult place to move into or live in if you aren't making 80,000+ dollars a year, or don't own property from the seventies. It's a very trendy community as of late, and the restaurants and shops are very quaint and entertaining.
