Bayridge is a small community where safety and family friendliness is a priority. Everyone is close and share many similarities. Many animal lovers, including me, would have lively conversations between walks and picnics in the Owls Head park. Everything is accessible by public transportation such as bus, train, bike, or a simple few-minute walk.5th avenue contains a wide diverse variety of food and other places. Experiences with Bayridge have always been unique and exciting, especially when Bayridge holds a stroll where they close the streets and all the restaurants and other businesses go outside and eat. Kids run around and have fun, and the whole community comes together.
I lived in Bay Ridge for three years and I still miss it/visit regularly. It's quiet, diverse, charming and a good separation between the chaos of Manhattan and the residential feel of the neighborhood. Everything shuts off after 10pm, the neighbors are nice and it has great parks, restaurants and views of both the Verrazano bridge and downtown Manhattan from the 69th St pier. Also, it's probably the safest area in Brooklyn. The only thing that prevents Bay Ridge from being perfect is relying on the R train and its difficulty to get to the city, especially late nights, but on the bright side... that makes it affordable!
I’ve grown up here, so I’m gonna do a pros and cons.
Pro: Great for families. Almost everyone has a kid and great parenting communities.
Con: Schools are quite overcrowded and the most popular high school (Fort Hamilton) is pretty dangerous and overcrowded.
Pro: Not too many chains and mostly small businesses. (other then 3rd Avenue) Food is pretty good and affordable, as well as food from many different cultures.
Con: Businesses come and go pretty fast, and most places don’t survive for more then a few years.
Pro: Good communities and plenty of bars and nightlife. The neighborhood is pretty balanced politically, however it leans left. Rarely any heavy drugs. Very safe.
Con: No nightclubs and plenty of homeless. Subway stations are dirty and overrun with homeless. Weed is pretty much everywhere.
Pro: Beautiful homes. Nice blocks to live on and pretty quiet. Good for walking animals.
Con: Very expensive. Don’t move here if you aren’t prepared for a big bill.
