I have lived in the South Valley my whole life and even though people are skeptical about it, I enjoy living down here. We all know each other in our neighborhood and we are very close. It is more like ranch living than city living with the exception of having all the amenities near us!
There are new businesses moving into the area. Atrisco Heritage Academy has only been around for a few years, my son will be the sixth graduating class from that school. They recently also built an elementary/middle school next to the high school, so we're growing but need more resources. The roads cannot handle the amount of traffic in the area.
We recently got a movie theater in the area, and are getting more businesses that were not usually coming toward this side of town. It's nice to see growth on this side of town. Maybe we can push the bad element out, and bring back some better quality people.

We know of a couple of drug dealers in the neighborhood, and the house across the street from us, burned down four years ago due to squaters in the home. Now there has only been an empty lot for 3 and a half years.
There are several kids that roam the streets without parents that concerns me, a few that have no respect for the older folks like me. You just have to kind of keep no eye contact so you make sure your home is safe.
We keep hand guns in our home just in case.
Police only come around when there is trouble in the neighborhood, there is no patrols just because.
