Ballantyne is an idyllic community for a growing family that can afford it. Great schools, an abundance of restaurants (albeit many chains) and is known for being pretty safe. However, once those kids (like myself) grow up, you start wanting something more. There aren't many options for nightlife, or for very many arts and culture type things that you might find in other Charlotte neighborhoods like NoDa or Dilworth. Also, if you are interested in sports, Ballantyne is one of the subdivisions of Charlotte furthest away from Uptown, meaning it can be a pain to get yourself to a Panthers or Hornets game. Most of my high school friends lived closer to Uptown as well, so as I got older many did not want to drive to Ballantyne to hang out (this is different if you go to a public school in the area. I went to private Catholic school, though). Overall, I did enjoy growing up here, but am grateful for my family's move to the Myers Park area last year.
