My neighborhood is dangerous, it is underserved and undervalued by Chicago’s politicians and infrastructure developments. Banks seize properties and leave them without management causing them to become dilapidated, and people from all over Chicago come and do fly by dumping in the neighborhood. Although community organizations like Austin Coming Together and the West Side Health Authority’s Good Neighbor program does activism to improve the community, it is hard to combat the systematic and institutional limitations placed on the community and the people that inhabit it. Neighborhoods shouldn’t have to be gentrified for them to be better.
Not considered the best place to grow up due to poverty and crime, but the potential is amazing. The people, food, history of this neighborhood of Chicago is wonderful. Some changes I would like to see is the decrease in violence and an increase in resources for schools and businesses. Eliminate the number of liquor stores that are in close proximity of the neighborhood.
Unfortunately, the neighborhood of Austin isn't as beautiful as other parts of the city of Chicago. There's violence and poverty everywhere throughout the neighborhood. Also the schools in the neighborhood aren't resourced very well, as they don't have updated books so the schools are struggling.
