Astoria has a number of mini-neighborhoods to fit a variety of lifestyles. The ditmars area has a lot of up-and-coming restaurants and night-life and has an amazing neighborhood//community feel. There are a lot of brownstones, backyards, and greek food! Grocery stores are relatively good in the area, with a lot of locally-owned and operated business such as Rosario's, Sal, Kris and Charlie's Deli, and Cassinelli Food Products. It is a very safe neighborhood. Biking is relatively easy, though parking can be quite challenging at times. Astoria Park is also awesome during the warmer months!

Astoria is an excellent neighborhood for anyone-younger graduates, families, and retirees. There are lots of restaurants that span a variety of cuisines and you can see different cultures all over. Astoria Park is gorgeous and perfect for exercising, walking the dog, or just getting some sun in the summer. The transportation makes it a quick commute into the city yet there is still a nice neighborhood feel. It is safe and clean with lots of residents that will quickly become familiar faces. I love Astoria and everything about it. I just hope that it retains it's small neighborhood charm and doesn't become victim to big brands and chain stores!
Astoria is a great retreat from the big city. It is less hectic than manhattan, but still easily accessible by the subway. The food can't be beat! There are great Greek restaurants and bakeries as well as newer american fair. I recommend Taverna Kyclades for greek food, Sugar Freak for Louisiana style southern food and Queens Comfort for creative American fair. Some great bars include The Bonnie and Sweet Afton, Judy Punch and Astoria Beir and Cheese. Not to mention the Bohemian Beir Garden, and Astoria staple. There are also great gyms, Yoga and Pilates studios and a Buffalo Exchange that can't be beat! All only a 10 minute subway ride from Midtown Manhattan!
