Alger Heights Reviews
Rating 4.33 out of 5 6 reviews
Alger is such a special place to live -- it truly reminds me of a small town in the middle of a big city. Neighbors are respectful, down to earth, and there is such a "community" feel. I get many groceries at Kens, go out for a beer at Brass Ring, grab takeout from Old Goat and Don Betos, get breakfast at Real Food, take my kids to Alger Peds, and get my hair cut at Urban Johnny's. The plaster creek trail that runs to Ken-O-Sha is always full of deer and is also such a special place 1/2 mile from our home. We love Alger!
It's a great neighborhood. While I live closer to Burton heights, the whole area has a variety of low income to higher income homes. Many people who don't know the area might find my street shady, there are good families spread throughout the couple blocks around my house who are always ready and willing to make new friends and neighbors feel welcome. The library, a grocery store, and other conveniences are within a bike ride, or three minute drive away. The area has had some crime issues in the past, but the longer you live in the area, the more you learn how the neighborhood works, and that it isn't nearly as dangerous as it may seem. The streets surrounding mine are much safer than mine.
Alger Heights is a great neighborhood for anyone, in any stage of life. With many parks, and schools from Elementary to High School within a mile, it is perfect for families of all sizes. The local shopping area is within walking distance of the entire neighborhood and has a variety of dining options, grocery, specialty shops, as well as a branch of the Grand Rapids Public Library. It is also close to all areas of town, to meet all needs.
