The general atmosphere of the neighborhood is relatively inviting, though there are a number of run-down apartment complexes as well as a half-closed down strip mall that make some pockets relatively dicey. However, that's something just to be expected of urban areas, and considering the lower cost of living, it's workable. The homes are old but not without character. Public transportation is accessible and there are several businesses and schools (elementary, middle, and high) in the area.
Its Albuquerque, being in a college apartment setting makes it better, and my home community, personally i very much enjoy. My general neighborhood seems to be on the rise as new businesses are being built. All around town im not sure, but were doing better than the majority of the rural New Mexican towns.

Due to its proximity to several schools, businesses, and a public library, police are highly visible. There is also a city fire station in the area. However, my personal sense of safety is a little lower than perhaps normal; as a frequent pedestrian using public transportation I have found myself harassed on the street numerous times. I've almost been hit by cars running stop signs and speeding. I just rest assured that law enforcement response times are quicker in this area than any other area I've lived in.
