I moved to Ahwatukee Foothills a few years ago and I couldn't be happier with my choice. Before I bought my home here I spent time exploring other neighborhoods and areas of Phoenix but this one stood out. I particularly love its close proximity to nature which allows me to easily go hiking and mountain biking at South Mountain from my front door.
There are nearby parks, shops, and family owned restaurants. There's also a large grocery store, gym, car mechanic, dentist office and a local hardware store at Foothills Center. Everything here is so convenient! The schools (elementary, middle, & high) are absolutely fantastic which is hard to find in the greater Phoenix metro area.
Ahwatukee Foothills is only 10 minutes via the 202 to Chandler and 15 minutes to Tempe and the airport! Overall this neighborhood offers a safe, friendly community with access to great schools, nature, and top notch amenities.

Moved here 12 years ago from Florida very happy its become a lot more diverse. it's one of the best neighborhoods in the Phoenix area. only 12 mins from the airport, 15 mins from downtown. located near I-10 and 202 so easy to get across town from here. My son has been going to school here since kindergarten now he's in high school -very good schools! lots of shopping close by: JC Penny, Kohls, Ross, Marshalls, Burlington, Target, 2 Goodwill stores, and so much more. very safe here compared to the rest of Phoenix. Several parks and hiking trails. Pecos community park has a very nice pool with slides and they have a shaded area with a ramada that you can reserve for a party free of charge. We have a seniors community center they also have a pool. Ahwatukee has a free shuttle that has a good route to get you around in Ahwatukee. The rent has gone up it used to be more affordable when I moved here. Other than that I highly recommend it for raising your children in a decent neighborhood.
I like Awhatukee because it's a very connected area. It's easy to get to places you need to be, and there's a sense of community that really brings it all together. It's about as safe as anywhere else these days, but there's a sense of community in that one might often hear of the unsafe events through warnings from neighbors.
