This is one of the more affluent parts of Houston and it shows. Schools are great, gorgeous homes, lots of shopping and places to eat. The local elementary school, River oaks elementary, has the coolest playground I’ve ever seen. The area is safe and well protected and there are lots of families and pets. I think the roads could be a little better but that’s a big city of Houston issue in general. My favorite part of living here is being close to Montrose, the galleria, rice village, and Buffalo bayou park. Talk about being in a great location.
Have visited many times throughout the years because this is the area my high school had been located. It has had much diversity and many new restaurants have been built. There is a shopping center that is nice to visit, "The River Oaks Shopping Center" which is an enjoyable spot to walk around where there are palm trees aligned in front of every store. Very safe and family and pet friendly, I would be happy to be able to be here for longer.
Lived in The Heights around a bunch of Lawyers. There just aren't many criminals that mess with there possible defense attorney! The area has a lot of single garage apartment renters paying $1000 for a 1 bedroom. We got robbed which was upsetting. But I rollerbladed alone all over the area Day & Night without incident & felt pretty safe. Great flat smooth roads to rollerblade on. This area also managed to maintain power during & after a couple of Hurricanes. The bar scene in the Heights is extremely kind to single women & more typical of Texas than the more religious areas of Houston. Lots of young married & young single professionals in the area. Probably have moved here permanently if my housemate was not psycho.
