Mystic is a beautiful place to live, but the tourists during the summer and winter can make the downtown area extremely hectic. The cost of living is fairly high compared to other parts of the state and other states altogether. Olde Mystick Village is a fun place to shop, but it's definitely built around attracting tourists, as is the aquarium and downtown Mystic. Sift in downtown has been particularly to "blame" for the amount of tourists that crowd the area, but with good reason. Their food is spectacular.

Mystic is a great place to live, however, Mystic is not a town. It is a village that is part of both Groton and Stonington, divided by the Mystic River. The two towns are very different from each other. Groton has a larger, more diverse population; Stonington is more rural. I live on the Groton side and its been a wonderful place to raise our children. Being a tourist town, there is always something to do, even beyond the well known Aquarium and Mystic Seaport Museum. Great restaurants, an incredible Parks and Rec department, and wonderful schools and libraries with a very engaged parent community.
Mystic is a high tourist attraction for New England, and is recommended for families. It offers a historical experiences for people of all ages and has several "hot spots" to visit while there. During July and August the town gets very busy and traffic isn't always the best.
