Mountain House is a new planned community, but very little community exists. There’s only one business (!) in the whole town - an overpriced mini-market. There is no community center or facilities. There are nice parks and homes, but no “downtown”. Half the town is still under construction. You have to drive 15mins for groceries or anything. The main issue aside from this is the climate. It is *very* dry, windy, and summers are too hot. If you’re from the Southwest then maybe this is normal for you, but it means you can’t spend much time outside for several months of the year.

Mountain House is the 12th place I've lived in in my life. Out of all of those places, Mountain House is one of the most welcoming. I joined a public school as an 8th grader expecting old, close groups that would stick together, but while there were close-knit groups, the people were usually very friendly. I credit this partially to the fact that Mountain House is such a new place. This also makes it more affordable than other parts of California, and although there are not many stores in Mountain House, they are not too far away.
I've lived in Mountain House for almost a decade. We've definitely seen the developers vision come to fruition! When we arrived here, the economy was in a deep recession, but after seeing the 10 year developement plan and talking with a few optimistic residents we felt it was wise to ride the recession out. Did I mention, there are numerous jogging trails and even a free water park here? 10 years later, it's been one of the best decisions we've made. We now have four children, a home based business, and own our second home here. Not to mention, the value of our home has increase almost double since the positive economic turn. I've certainly live in the ideal "Young Family" neighborhood!
