Mount Vernon is under development to become "the place where you'd like to live!". My son used to go to school in the Bronx and he was doing horrible. The school where he attended wasn't very productive. After I moved to Mount Vernon, my son has been in the honor roll for the duration of the school year. My son is now more savvy, more enthusiast about learning, and overall; a better student. The school my child attends is Columbus elementary. I am extremely grateful and content with mount vernon's school district. As a parent, any city that provides an excellent education for our kids deserves recognition because our kids are our future. They are the elements needed to construct our future bridges (architects), the future of medicine (doctors/sciences), the future laws and regulations (lawyers, judges), and overall, our future "everything"! Let's give them a "hip, hip, hooray!".

What Mt. Vernon is lacking most is jobs. This city can be a major hub for manufacturing, local entertainment, and tech due to its proximity to the city by highway and public transport.

Crime isn't as bad as people think. You can walk most streets at night. As long as you mind your business you'll be fine. Crime has been on a steady decline here. However, our police department needs a major overhaul and new blood from the community, because a lot of crimes are not being solved. This is what gives the city it's criminal depiction.

In 5 to 10 years when it becomes gentrified, I'm sure it will be a top city in Westchester. Yes gentrification is happening unfortunately.

One last thing, our city government sucks. Corruption, childish actions, a lack of deference for the citizenry, political control by one party, and unethical behavior. Changing the leaders could make a huge difference in its development.
I currently am a resident of Mount Vernon, I love the school my daughter attends but the middle schools and high school aren’t as good as the elementary school system within mount Vernon. It’s a very beautiful town in certain areas, and I appreciate the culture and diversity within the town. I see things going in a better direction for the future. Unfortunately living anywhere within New York is very expensive, but regardless it’s an experience you won’t find anywhere else. I love that mount Vernon is very close to the Bronx and city, so there is always something to do close by.
