Location, location, location! A 10 min drive over the Ravenel Bridge takes you into Charleston and it's cultural, epicurian, and educational delights. A 10 min drive over the ICW from Mt Pleasant puts your toes in the sands of Isle of Palms or Sullivan's Island. But even without crossing any bridges, Mt. Pleasant offers the best of lowcountry living that is steeped in history, surrounded by nature, and beautifully maintained.
The only bad parts of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina is the summer heat and the traffic. Other than that, the place is beautiful. The neighborhoods, the environment, the people, everything is lovely. The humidity and heat can be easily adjusted to once you understand how to accommodate to the lifestyle of hot. It rarely gets below 40 degrees, even in the winter, which means it's perfect sweater weather in the fall. I cannot complain having lived here my whole life, there is not any other place I'd rather be quite honestly.
My family has lived in Mt. Pleasant for 12 yrs now and we love it. The only negatives are the congestion and overdevelopment but it's not bad compared to similar places in Florida. We live in a quiet neighborhood near Ben Sawyer Blvd and we can be on Sullivans Island Beach in 5 mins, Charleston Harbor/Old Village 6 mins and downtown Charleston in 12 min's with plenty of great shops, restaurants and grocery stores in between. The people here are very nice and most people love access to Charleston for it's culture and restaurants and the Atlantic Ocean for the boating. This is a very safe town and deserves a better Niche rating.
