I have been living in Mount Airy since I was born. The town, famous for the Andy Griffith Show, is rich in history, with museums, antique shops, and small eateries, evident along the downtown area of the city. One of my favorite places to go in Mount Airy is a little bookstore/cafe called Pages, where you can buy books, coffee, or smoothies (my favorite is the large, strawberry smoothie with extra whip cream) and sit by the big, glass windows and watch people walk down Main Street. Before the pandemic, I used to sit in the cafe for hours after school, before I went to work, and sip on my smoothie with my laptop on the table. I would finish up my homework before heading to my work (as a lifeguard and the local community center a few blocks over).
This is a quiet little town, the people here are nice. You can be walking or driving and multiple people with wave and smile. I have grew up here and to me it is just like the Song "MAYBERRY" sitting on the front porch drinking cherry coke.
Love this town!
Love this town!
The community is very friendly and even tho there is not much to do here, the people are fun to talk to and there is also some fun places to go to.
Crooked cops. Covered up over doses on a regular basis. Thievery on a regular basis. No locals eat on Main Street, food is no good and too expensive. Nothing to entertain younger people. Good retirement place, or it would be if they would wipe out the cops and such on drug dealers payrolls. Welcome to Mount Airy, where Andy Griffith hated it.
Mount Airy is a great town to explore. There are many different place to explore whether it be the city of Mount Airy or downtown. There are many historical and wonderful locations to view here.
Mount Airy is better known as "Mayberry" from the Andy Griffith show. It is a remote, small town with overwhelming southern hospitality.
Very comfortable and easy going area. Several places to visit and to live however not many high paying job opportunities.
Mount Airy is a small town and everyone knows everyone. Sometimes things like drama can start quick and you might lose a couple of friends. Nothing is better then the Friday night lights at Wallace Shelton Stadium and the sound from the scoreboard will radiate through the whole town. Chili's after each football game is a must (too many people go to cookout after).
Mount Airy is somewhere I will always see as a "home" for me. Although I have always loved the idea of big cities, and having something to do everywhere you go, my hometown has provided me with the best place to grow up. Everyone who lives here is friendly, and you see someone you know everywhere you go. I love the fact that so many families and their families have grown up here as well. The sense of community is inspiring and the history behind our town is amazing. I hope one day I am able to give back to my small town as much as my community gave back to me.
I have lived in Mt. Airy all my life, it is a small town in NC known for Andy Griffith. The town is small so everybody knows everyone and what everybody is doing! Overall it is a good town to live in but since most of the Hosiery Mills have left the town is more of a ghost town and is focused on Tourism and not wanting to bring jobs back in. If I could change Mt. Airy I would give Hosiery Mills more incentives so jobs would come back.
Main Street is a very safe place to walk, it has great restaurants and an amazing bakery called Miss Angel's. There are a decent amount of sports bars that are open for those that like to go out at night. The schools are.. alright. I am glad that I did not attend any of them. Where I went was only slightly better but regardless. There are beautiful houses all around, many neighborhoods. Not very many jobs hiring other than fast food and office work. That leads into..there are not many new businesses in the area, and those that come in do not always stay long. The roads are really good, and grocers and medical care is easy to find and access. It is fairly safe, police are always patrolling somewhere. As far as demographics and diversity...not very much. The majority of those living here are middle-aged "country folk" who do not really appreciate change. It is a very stagnant environment which makes it difficult for someone that is more open-minded, like myself, to flourish.
Mt. Airy is a small town with small town values, still has a decent degree of diversity and is family friendly and safe. The cost of living is average and there are some beautiful homes & neighborhoods, it beautiful views located at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Very great small town, Family owned business's and just a good time with good people. Great local people. Everyone knows everybody. Safe environment which allows for kids and teenagers to feel safe at any moment in the town. There is not a lot to do in Mount Airy but the fact that everybody knows everybody just makes it a whole lot better. People are always so willing to lend a hand and it just makes the town of Mount Airy so much better.
I love Mount Airy, It is the best little town ever. I have been here ever since I was born and I hate going anywhere else. I do not like the city because of how much I love the small town of "Mayberry", which is what its called because of the Andy Griffith Show. It is going to be hard to go off to college somewhere in the city because I am not used to it but Mount Airy is an amazing town.
Mount Airy is a tourist town and the leaders over the city refuse to allow high paying companies a chance to move within the limits giving the impoverished a chance to become something . Anything that would make them appear less than a tourist town is not tolerated. They publicize Mayberry, but forget to recognize the opiate crisis right under their noses and sweep it under the rug. Anytime someone tries to help the entire community, they only want whats best for the elite and the minority not the majority.
