Main Street is a very safe place to walk, it has great restaurants and an amazing bakery called Miss Angel's. There are a decent amount of sports bars that are open for those that like to go out at night. The schools are.. alright. I am glad that I did not attend any of them. Where I went was only slightly better but regardless. There are beautiful houses all around, many neighborhoods. Not very many jobs hiring other than fast food and office work. That leads into..there are not many new businesses in the area, and those that come in do not always stay long. The roads are really good, and grocers and medical care is easy to find and access. It is fairly safe, police are always patrolling somewhere. As far as demographics and diversity...not very much. The majority of those living here are middle-aged "country folk" who do not really appreciate change. It is a very stagnant environment which makes it difficult for someone that is more open-minded, like myself, to flourish.

I have lived here all my life! I wouldn't have wanted to grow up anywhere else. I have so many childhood and adult memories here from participating in plays, joining the swim team, gymnastics, eating at the famous Snappy Lunch, getting married, and watching my nieces and nephews grow and experience some of the things I did growing up as a child. This town may be small, but size truly isn't a factor when it comes to all of the great things Mt. Airy, N.C. has to offer.
Mount Airy is a tourist town and the leaders over the city refuse to allow high paying companies a chance to move within the limits giving the impoverished a chance to become something . Anything that would make them appear less than a tourist town is not tolerated. They publicize Mayberry, but forget to recognize the opiate crisis right under their noses and sweep it under the rug. Anytime someone tries to help the entire community, they only want whats best for the elite and the minority not the majority.
