My hometown of Moorpark is a small, quiet suburb in Ventura County. I attended Campus Canyon Elementary, Mesa Verde Middle School, and Moorpark High School here, all of which were well-rounded and had an excellent music program, various school sports, and extracurricular activities to participate in. There are enough grocery stores and restaurants, but as I mentioned, it's a quiet city, so there is no nightlife to speak of nor many daytime attractions. Many residents will travel to the neighbouring cities of Thousand Oaks or Simi Valley for their malls, cinemas, etc. We are proud of the Underwood Family Farms, which hosts the annual Fall Harvest Festival, attended over the years by some celebrities, including Jennifer Garner and Gwen Stefani. America's Teaching Zoo at Moorpark College is also a highlight and the place for many field trips. And we have the best bakery in the area called Carrara's, featured on TV. Overall, it's the #3 safest city in California and great for families.
The town is safe, not many people visiting. Unfortunately, many stores have closed down over the years and COVID caused more stores to close. The city continues to talk about updating high street, but I’ve lived here for 15 years and there hasn’t been any progress. The one high school is average, not a very nice looking campus, just a lot of concrete. Subjects are limited compared to other schools nearby. The sport programs are not run with the best interest of the students. The town is safe, doesn’t seem to attract many outssiders. No night lifes. People are friendly. Housing is average. There seems to be high end homes in the area. New apartments have gone up. It’s unfortunate to see so many stores close, the few centers we have, they have been vacant for years. I would like to see more progress in the development of high street. I would like the city to promote more businesses to come to the city. I recommend building more homes to increase the tax base.
It is super safe and beautiful, with trees and parks everywhere you look. There is a creek running through, and our community college is amazing- it has a zoo and observatory! Besides that, it's not as exciting as a big city so you might run out of things to do to for fun.
