Monument and surrounding towns used to be a great place to live UNTIL our state government representatives have created a place where crime now has become front and center. They have decriminalized fentanyl and are trying to pass what they call "safe areas" where drug addicts are provided a place to use their drugs. The I25 is a direct route for illegal immigrants, and boy are they coming!
I have called monument home for over 15 years. It is a small but wonderful community of people. Because it is small however there are limited options when it comes to shopping/work but since Colorado Springs is so close many simply choose to commute. We have great schools though and wonderful holiday traditions like the yearly Fourth of July parade!
I really like Monment's proximity to the Front Range, Colorado Springs, Castle Rock, Denver, and the host of interesting opportunities and fun things that they entail. It should be noted that the actual town of Monument is rather ugly and doesn't have a ton of food choices, although that seems to be changing. If you're looking for a small-town environment, Monument is probably no longer for you. Increased population flow to Colorado Springs and the surrounding areas have practically merged Monument with its larger cousin. This being said, Monument is still a great place to live, and it's elementary, middle, and high schools are consistently high performing.
