Montrose is an excellent town on the western slope located just a short drive from some of the most amazing natural wonders the Southwest has to offer. Montrose is also a great place to raise a family, with our recreation district offering a multitude of sports for any age, including year round soccer in our brand-new indoor soccer complex! Montrose also offers the largest and newest recreation center on the western slope, including an 11 lane lap pool, basketball courts, a lazy river and racquetball courts. Montrose public schools offer amazing sports programs and have recently become deeply invested in STEM activities. Overall, Montrose is an amazing town with so much to offer and it will make an excellent home for anyone wanting to move here.
Have lived here for nearly 5 years after choosing to escape one of America's largest cities. Love the peace and quiet, and scenic beauty of the San Juan mountains, Ouray, Telluride and Silverton, plus Black Canyon National Park, a stunning place of beauty about 30 minutes away. The people here are delightful. A lot of family values due to many old-time cowboys, farmers and ranchers who believe in faith and family. NO traffic issues at all, although in-town there is some crime and drug issues (like anywhere). Not many choices of places to eat or things to do if you want nightlife but tons of outdoor opportunities. We're retiring here and glad we made the move.
Montrose has a beautiful city park and trail system that goes along the Uncompahgre River. In addition the town has an incredible Rec center. Montrose is close to many beautiful places.
This area of Colorado seems to frequently be in a drought and I worry about the lack of water in the future. Montrose is extremely conservative and many residents deny human caused climate change. They oppose any gun control and any policies to reduce the use of plastics. Many were upset when the city started a recycling program several years ago. If you are not a conservative Republican it can become frustrating living here.
