12 miles West of Manhattan, this city has been a NJ beacon for decades. It has energy, beauty, diversity in its population, a better-than-average school system, 6 business districts and 6 Midtown Direct train stations to the City, gorgeous parks and playgrounds, lots of places to eat, shop and stroll, kid-friendly activities and camps, access to great medical and a deep commitment to the arts. About the only think it lacks is consistent parking options! It's also just about an hour from the Jersey shore, which is great in the summer.
Montclair is Montclair. Nothing too special about it. Located in Essex County, it has a somewhat diverse population. Yes, it is known as an expensive town, and I do think that can cloud peoples minds from what the real world is like. Which at some points in life, is good for them, but as we grow up the truth about the world starts to get uncovered. Although it's a very nice, wealthy place, not everyone or everything in it, is. Our schools fall apart, literally, our stairs have collapsed, a lot. There are downsides to my town, but there are also upsides. This town is very family friendly. There are really cool places to go, if you look in the right spots. Montclair is also home to places where historical events took place. Our city officials won't acknowledge how great it is, but it would be amazing to share the history behind where I live. Our town may contain some nasty things or people, but it holds really amazing things waiting to be seen by the rest of our world.
I live in Montclair and I hate it I love all the restaurants and the diversity in Downtown and the South end but the rest of the town is rich white snobs the taxes are ridiculous for what you get most homes where built in the 1900s which is very old and the government is corrupt and the taxes are pushing middle class out and now all you’re new neighbors are suckers from NYC the schools are good but the buildings are in bad shape. The tax dollars are not going anywhere the town gets worse every year most of the cool people in this town are being pushed out into neighboring towns like Bloomfield or East Orange because the coat of living is so high lots of small businesses don’t last long cuz of the rent and Lackawanna Plaza is a eyesore to say the least and it’s to Democrat Most people that used to live in Monclair were neutral people in politics now most that live Hear a radical left snobs from New York City if you’re a Republican or a neutral person you hate it here.
