My husband and I both have Master's degrees, but live in modest Garden City. It's safe( we have a crazy neighbor that drinks next door; hence
multiple cameras. Lol) I work at a hospital in Monroeville, so no parkway. My husband works at the Allegheny County Courthouse;he takes the bus downtown. Everything is very close( grocery stores, restaurants). I wish there were bike lanes various stores, but local traffic is so massive and thick, especially in rush hour, it may be a headache.
We walk at several of the parks usually once a week. No real night life. There are free concert series in one park, which we take picnics to. We also attend the free Shakespeare plays in the park.
The downside is the mall. It attracts a nuisance crowd; I avoid it. I have lived here ( in the east suburbs ( Verona, Plum and Monroeville) most of my life, but I have avoided mall for over a decade. Shootings and having to look over your shoulder is no fun.

As a resident for most my life here (lived in penn hills and other parts of the city) and as much as i love it, its average. Trust me its not great, but its not terrible. In whole life here basically, you get tired of it commonly and the education is not that good unless youre going to private schools. Not the best place in pennsylvania for sure, way better places in almost every way that you can be in pa, but at the same time places like mckeesport, penn hills, homewood north, pitcairn, and many other surrounding places are a lot worse. A lot of drugs for how small it is, more than you’d think, lot of teenagers here not on a good path/ no good influence. Along with this ive seen it on a decline for a couple years. I mean if you just mind your own business you’ll be fine 99 percent of the time but some people here weird. I would give it 3/5 but honestly since its constantly getting worse and especially in different parts, gonna rate it a solid 2/5 almost a 3 but not quite.
Monroeville is a great business borough. All of the small business and restaurants are located in one route, which makes it convenient for shopping or dining. Monroeville is a safe town, and many neighborhoods have their own neighborhood watch program. The Gateway High School is a good college prep school, and they have tons of dual enrollment and AP classes.
