Although I have only lived in Monroe Township for 3 years, it is clear that the town is not as great as everyone believes it is. Despite the diversity, there is still racism. Just a couple of days ago, a man was called racial slurs and was told to go back to his country. The children of this town also suffer due to the overwhelming influence of senior citizens. They do not want to raise taxes to build a new middle school, leaving students in a packed, even hazardous environment. In fact, many students have to take classes in trailers near the main road. As a person of color and a student in Monroe Township, I want to see things change. First of all, people need to be educated and have conversations to break through racial barriers. Those who are still racist in 2020 should not be allowed to disrespect others because of their skin color. Furthermore, students need to be given a second school, or their safety, as well as learning ability, is put as a disadvantage.
Monroe is over all a really great place to grow up. We have more that 5 pizza places and ice cream shops, and the schools have crazy opportunities that many others can't afford. The only bad thing is that the town is growing so bigly so quickly. Its gotten to a point where the schools face over crowding, despite the high school being built less than 10 years ago. On a brighter note, the town and schools are really supportive. Whenever a town tragedy or death or anything like that occurs, the community is very good at coming together and supporting one another.
I like that there are lots of parks and other public spaces to enjoy. It is the prefect distance from the city, and the schools are great! It’s a great place to raise a family.
