There's basically no crime at all here. There's a neighbor that shoots off fireworks (illegally) at random times, but it's nothing safety-threatening.
It's an awesome area. The people are really nice and approachable. Everything that one could need is within 5 minutes of driving. The district puts it with a great high school. There are trees all over and it's really pretty. It's not too busy, so one can go for a walk and enjoy the fresh air. It's an awesome neighborhood.
I love being in the country, but yet still being close enough to the city to do my shopping etc.
In the Cedar Rapids/Marion area there are huge amounts of small businesses and everyone in the community is dedicated to helping others succeed. When you drive down the streets there are people waving and smiling. Thrifting is a big draw around this area even though we don't have the best thrift stores, but in all fairness our antique stores are out of this world. You can find something for everyone and all of it is relatively inexpensive. In the past couple of years we have seen a huge jump in the variety of stores and restaurants in the area. They have incorporated things like multi-cultural restaurants and two different trampoline parks for kids and families to enjoy. And the city has worked very hard to work on road construction and get the roads back in a suitable condition. We now have more parks than ever and three new fresh market stores within 15 miles of each other. Cedar Rapids has always been a community where people were very cold to each other and almost standoffish to a certain extent, but the way Marion and Cedar Rapids have been able to bring all types of people together to love one another and connect us all as a community is truly amazing. I have to say that these past five or six years have made me so incredibly grateful that I live in a place like this.
Attending University of Iowa Hawkeye football and basketball games is very popular.
In 2008, there was a massive flood that destroyed a large portion of our downtown.
There are an abundance of restaurants in the area, however, a limited selection of bars exists in Cedar Rapids.
Rockwell Collins, which is an engineering company, has its headquarters located in Cedar Rapids and is a top employer.
We have a New Bohemian district downtown that is very popular. It is filled with art, local bookstores, shops, and unique exhibits.
