- Town in Wisconsin

Monroe is a town of about 11,000 just north of the Illinois border. There is not much to do in town, but it is conveniently located between Madison, Janesville, and Rockford so if you were looking to go somewhere fun you would only have to take a short drive to one of those cities. Compared to cities of relative size nearby, Monroe is mostly comprised of older retired people and is very family friendly.
Monroe is a small town with little to no fun activities to do. They are strongly against their residents having any sort of animal residents. All their parks prohibit any animals besides a single dog park located on the outskirts of town where barely any residents live. This single dog park has a $30 annual fee to use as well as requires a long list of requirements for the dogs. One of these requirements is to have your animal spayed or neutered making your animal ineligible to compete in any competitions or be a show dog. If one was able to live in Dane County, all their parks are dog friendly and they also have 7 off leash dogs park as well. Monroe should consider allowing animals into their other parks if they were to be leashed and picked up after. Very disappointing!!
I have lived in Monroe my entire life and I couldn't be happier. I have all of my family here, friends, and absolutely friendly and familiar faces. I had a fairly average childhood. I would still consider it a small town, but it has got everything a person needs. And can not forget the downtown historical square! Lots of small businesses and local bars. The only downside I have seen is the drug and gang presents.
Monroe is great town for families with young children. It is extremely walkable with many playgrounds. There is a nice city pool that is open most of the summer. It includes a zero-depth children's pool. It starts lacking in activities for teens and young adults.
4 stars because the schools are very clicky and there’s no Wendy’s in town. We do have Cheesedays which is a lot of fun but it’s very crowded. There’s also the square which has a lot of cool shops....from boutiques to sweet treats and lots of others. We like taking the kids to Rainbow Confections for their flavored popcorn and multitude of candies. The Garden Deli has great sandwiches and THE BEST EGG SALAD!
very family oriented city. Very safe to live in. Job opportunities are great. Schools are pretty good too.
Great little town full of Swiss Heritage. Home to world famous Baumgartners Cheese Store and Tavern. A place where everyone smile and says hello. The historic court house square keeps you entertained with local shops and food.
I love Monroe for the events that happen within the city. Every two years we have an all weekend festival called Cheese Days to celebrate our heritage as cheese makers.
Crime is very low and police can be seen regularly
Within the past 40+ years, there has only been one murder in this city. There hasn't been one moment where I felt unsafe in Monroe. You always spot police around town and since it's a five minute drive to pretty much anywhere in town, police response times are quick. The police force genuinely care about the residence of Monroe.
Monroe has that small town charm while still being a city. A lot of people know each other and you can not really go anywhere without seeing someone that you know. It hasn't changed much over the years.
The people are nice and caring, there is no crime.
