I have lived in Monroe my entire life and I couldn't be happier. I have all of my family here, friends, and absolutely friendly and familiar faces. I had a fairly average childhood. I would still consider it a small town, but it has got everything a person needs. And can not forget the downtown historical square! Lots of small businesses and local bars. The only downside I have seen is the drug and gang presents.
Monroe is a charming town, welcoming and friendly! The people are warm and cheerful, and the countryside is gorgeous. From walking trails to Cheese-factory tours, Monroe offers multiple tourist attractions. Kids love the large parks and dozens of activities available throughout the summer. Take a stroll through the historic downtown square and enjoy the classical music playing from the courthouse.
Monroe is a town of about 11,000 just north of the Illinois border. There is not much to do in town, but it is conveniently located between Madison, Janesville, and Rockford so if you were looking to go somewhere fun you would only have to take a short drive to one of those cities. Compared to cities of relative size nearby, Monroe is mostly comprised of older retired people and is very family friendly.
