I enjoy the small town, quiet feel of Monmouth. Even though there is a local college, Western Oregon University, it is not overrun by loud late night parties or large amounts of petty crime or police activity one my suspect around college students newly living on their own.

There are the local markets and restaurants of a small town with an option of a larger shopping experience in Waremart. It is a short 20+ minutes to downtown Salem and minutes to it's slightly larger sister city of Independence that host a Cinema, small business thrift store and more shopping and dining opportunities.

It has a library whose membership allows you access to a larger network of libraries within the Chemekata network. There are muliple banks with ATMs available 24/7. Gas stations with a decent pricing.
Monmouth is a great fit for me. It is a friendly town with everything you might need, just on a smaller and more personal scale. The environment is homey and welcoming. I personally enjoy Westerns campus being drug/alcohol/tobacco free, this leads to less societal pressure and potential to distractions or substance abuse.
