I moved to this town about a year ago. It’s a nice town with a quaint little downtown area and features like the middlesex greenway which is pretty cool. However it is NOT a liberal town. Plenty of extreme right wing MAGA heads live around here, some closeted and some out and proud! As a minority I won’t call this town diverse, a feeling that’s pretty amplified when you dine out in one of the several great restaurants here. I moved here thinking it’s a progressive town given its proximity to Rutgers among other things but I’ve come to realize it’s pretty conservative which in hindsight is not surprising given the above average number of churches per square mile!
Metuchen is a nice place to live. We moved here few years back. The primary advantage we found at that time was commute to NYC. However, we discovered that this small town had lot more to offer. This’s a place that offer good mix of everything. It’s highly diverse place to live in, and has a progressive approach to future developments. The ongoing pandemic made us explore nearby opportunities for groceries, restaurants, physical exercise etc.
Apart from great schools as everyone speaks a lot about, there is so much things to look for. The JFK hospital is within 5 mins drive from anywhere in metuchen. Great connectivity to all major highways. The town is very active in online and offline communities. Exciting art activities. Middlesex greenway is so accessible. Summer farmers market is very well organized. Great mix of restaurants.
Cons: high property taxes. Small public parks need attention. Not realizing full potential to become a leader in renewable energy.

Pros-Close to many highways and NYC. Train station in town. Many professionals who commute tend to find this a convenient town to live in. Diverse community. Any type of food is in close proximity.
Cons- The town is small, but very crowded and there is always heavy traffic!
