Merritt Island Reviews
Rating 4 out of 5 138 reviews
My overall experience with Merritt Island has been great. I moved from Long Island, New York to Merritt Island, Florida around 4 years ago. My parents picked Merritt Island over the other locations in Florida because my family felt more peaceful living in Merritt Island. It reminded us of Long Island a lot which felt a lot more like home. My family loved that Merritt Island was surrounded by a body of water. We felt very calm living here and we loved Merritt Island much better than living at our last destination. The people here are nicer and friendlier which led us to loving this island more. It has a suburban feel to it and includes lots of restaurants and parks. There are many places to go and Cocoa Beach is just a 20 minute drive from me. Merritt Island is a beautiful place and I do not regret moving here.
Pros:
-The community and county in general is very close knit and feels like family.
-It's a bridge between the beach and Orlando, as well as being very close to the Space sector of Brevard.
-Brevard County nicely on US 1 and sits in the middle of the state, making access to Orlando, Tampa, Miami, and Jacksonville more streamlined. This highway reaches across much of the Atlantic coast of the country.
-Edgewood the choice school
Cons:
-There isn't anything fun to do here but go to the space center and that can only make you happy for so many times. You have to go somewhere else in the county to go to events.
-The food is limited. Almost all that they have here are chain restaurants. There is a Japanese restaurant towards the middle/south, but that's pretty much it for food from other cultures besides a Mexican restaurant on the same road and that (SR 520)
-In general, all of the good food and events are in Melbourne, Viera, and Palm Bay. There really is nothing in Merritt Island.

Merritt Island is a good suburb and provides well for its people but there are a few things I'd like see changed. Public Transport is one. I wish to see a better public transport for the safety of everyone and to reduce our carbon footprint. I would also like Merritt Island to become safer for pedestrians and biker - there aren't many crosswalks, no parks, and no shade. Merritt Island is a vehicle's land.
