Menands is a sleepy neighborhood outside of Albany, NY. It features little eateries such Ted's Fish Fry off the main strip of Broadway, Gus Hotdogs just further down and Burger King across from the apartments of Village one. Drug store include the Wal-Greens at 444 Broadway. Its a quite place there is a few gas stations. There is like one fire stations, 1 train station, and few doctors offices. Its quite overall, peaceful, and the crime is low. The water quality is great, the air quality is the same, pollution is low and light pollution is about average for a city of about 50,000 with a surrounding metropolis. Winters are Cold but plowing is done quickly, however some areas are not done because of budgets. Schools are plowed quickly and constantly. During Riots Fireworks were shot off for 3 weeks.
It is one of the greatest neighborhoods in the city to live in. Importantly it has nearly everything a resident might want, beautiful scenery, proximity to schools and work. It is also one of the safest neighborhoods i have lived in. Nevertheless it has its drawbacks. It is very hard to find a nearby good shopping centers, grocery stores or restaurants.
We have lived in Menands for 30 years and it is a village where people look out after one another. Commute to downtown Albany is 5 minutes and extremely accessible to major highways. A wonderful place to raise a family with parks, library, village activities, placed of worship and top-rated school districts.
Overall, Menands has been a great city to live in. I live in a quiet and safe neighborhood, with necessary resources very close by. The pharmacy is right across the street, there is a gas station and grocery store nearby as well.
Safe area with a lot of families. Very residential and diverse. Minutes from Albany, Latham, Troy, and East Greenbush. Central location allows for a short commute and access to many jobs in the close surrounding areas.
