I am a native Memphian of 46 years. I love my city because of its diversity. We have a wonderful public and charter school system, great undergraduate colleges and programs, and superb graduate schools and programs. I also love the many corporations and job opportunities our city has to offer, along with the diversity of the residents in Memphis, TN. Oh yeah, not to mention the fantastic historical attractions located in downtown Memphis, and the many tourist attractions and activities as well, by the way, we also have a professional basketball team, "The Memphis Grizzlies", and a professional football team, "The Tennessee Titans". Memphis, Tn. home of the down home blues, soulful baptist churches, and excellent educational opportunities, Go Memphis!

I did not always like living in Memphis, but the past couple years it has really grown on me. I live in Midtown just off Overton Square, and I love being so close to the city. Downtown is ten minutes away; East Memphis is ten minutes away; Millington is twenty minutes away. So, I'm right in the middle of everything. Right down the street is Overton Square, which is a bustling street with plenty of restaurants and shops, and across Poplar Ave is Overton Park, where I like to take my dog on frequent walks. Overall, Memphis is a great city with lots of fun activities to do!
Memphis is notorious for its violence and decline in economy, but Memphis is in its process of rebuilding itself. It is doing a great job as of now. If you are a deciding parent that needs to put their child/children in a school, definitely look into private schools instead of public schools because it is HORRIBLE! The Shelby County School system is the worst when it comes to education. I recommend Heritage Baptist for young children and Lausanne Collegiate School for middle to upper school. There are also Houston which is free, but is like a private school...absolutely amazing. CBHS for an all boys school and Hutchison for an all girls school. There are some fun things to do here in Memphis, going to the mall, Memphis Zoo, skating rinks ,etc.
