This city use to be family friendly with annual festivals, friendly neighbors & clean streets. As the years went by, it has become a bit unkempt. It has 2 major freeways on opposite sides of the city. Between local businesses like the auto repair to public buildings such as the police dept, you have the convenience of a small town by having everything in walking distance. The educational system is a bit of a disappointment though. I felt that the area was fairly safe, especially since everyone knew everybody & the police were close by. Overall, I would say this city is an average place to live.

I grew up in the town that borders Melvindale (Lincoln Park) from the 1970's until 2000's. I have experienced nothing but kind neighbors and friendly people. It is also a very diverse, small community. I feel the high school offers an excellent vocational program for the students in the Junior and Senior years.

The heart of downtown Melvindale is just 8 miles from Downtown Detroit. Convenience to I-94, M-39, I-96, and I-75 all within minutes.
In Melvindale, there really isn't much of anything. You can go out for food and feed your vices with its multiple smoke shops, but that's about it. If you really want to do anything fun, you've really got to go to a nearby city to do it. The citizens are overall friendly, but it's also common to run into someone that'll ruin your mood. This city is mostly filled with rude older women, high teenagers, and obnoxious children that roam the streets somehow. There are definitely better cities.
