We have been here awhile and it is going downhill. Poor city planning design means they just cram everything along the main corridors, traffic is piling up more and more on a daily basis.

Most concerning are the actual people though. Traditional 4th of July parades and similar events that used to be fun hometown experiences are now Trump rallies with literally thousands of confederate flags all over the place.

The few small parks are well kept but never seem to have many visitors. The roads are definitely not cycling or runner friendly. Basically when anyone wants to do anything from shopping/dining/arts/outdoor activities they go to Richmond.

If you are looking for an NRA/Tea Party/alt-right type of community with plenty of fast food options you will love it here. Pickup trucks roaring down the street with confederate flags waving are a daily site. It was always a very conservative county, but it didn't used to so obnoxious.

I have been living here my whole life and will probably never leave. It’s definitely a safe area for growing a family. The diversity was non existent at one point but it’s getting better. There is not much to do around here if you want to have “fun”. There are a lot of nice parks around, that are well kept. I don’t work in town because there’s not much unless you like retail. Everything is close to town, which is a plus, you just drive 20 minutes and you’re there. Honestly though, if it wasn’t for the town sucking me in, it wouldn’t be my first choice. Oh and also a lot of history, rednecks and boomers. Haha.
Mechanicsville is a family-friendly community that is growing, at a fairly quick pace. Schools offer well rounded educationally relevant courses, with varying ways to earn diplomas with varying levels of completed coursework. Neighborhoods provide a safe haven for children to learn and play, while the adults socialize. Plenty to do, places to go and food to eat within the Mechanicsville community.
