What I love about my town, Mecca is that the town is in the desert it is a rural location and everyone in the community is either acquainted or known. News travels fast and when there are local events like the HUE (music festival) or Meccaton (church festival) most of the town gathers and celebrates, it genuinely feels like a family. What I would like to change is that although Mecca is an amazing place it is rural as I mentioned before, I would like to see a hospital closer or a new variety of stores where the residents do not have to drive 30 minutes or over to go to a wished location wether it may be for medical reasons or grocery shopping. These new additions can aid in job occupations, most of the population in Mecca is Hispanic/Latino and it is common to see undocumented and documented people working in the agricultural fields. Working in the fields is difficult especially in summer when the temperature is over 100°F, I would like to see better opportunities for my people.

I grew up in Mecca but was born in Mexico and was brought here at the age of 1. Mecca is a small community located in the Coachella valley surrounded by agriculture fields from lemons, to grapes and date palm trees. The town is made of 3 small meat markets Leons, Toro loco, and my Personal favorite Carlos meat market. They are known for having the best meat and lots of people drive from the surroundings cities to buy some, they also sell small amenities one needs as well with some bill paying services. There is 3 restaurants ,a post office an auto parts store, laundry mat, yoga/zumba studio, we just got a new police building including a new fire department. You can say mecca has it all two elementary schools, multiple parks, a new boys and girls club and a community center making it family friendly. As of now mecca is expanding day by day, we are finally getting a new bridge that will pass over the train tracks making it safer to cross the train tracks. Mecca is A great place to live.
I have lived in Mecca my entire life. It is a little town with a big emphasis on community. The majority of the people living here are hard woking immigrants with predominantly hispanic roots. We have small local stores for us to get our supplies in. We are surrounded by agricultural fields from grapes, to oranges, chile, and lemons we have it all. Near us we also have the Salton Sea which is beautiful but unfortunately at times does not smell the best due to the chemicals and salt in the water that kill off the fish. Another thing is that there is not much to do here since we are further out in the Valley but I still really enjoy living here.
