Trying to get property improvement permits is a nightmare! After the work is done, they come and tell you that you didn't have all of the correct permits and try and force you to get new ones, even though they have your plans and issued permits based on what they said you needed.
I grew up in Maywood all my life and there have been, of course, some great experiences and some not so great ones. Almost every year in either the spring or fall, the city hosts a community fair that is great fun! Plus there are many shopping outlets and food areas to choose from. The downside is that many of the streets are very narrow and it is a pain to find an open parking spot. Not to mention there is some crime that pops up ever so often where one can be woken up by the sirens. Overall, the community as a whole is great as there are many local schools that can be easily reached in walking distance as well as community parks. In my personal experience, Maywood's community bus is great and accessible to people of all ages to get around the city for free.
A lot of people litter in people's yards. People don't clean their pets poop. People drive really reckless in the area and near school zones. People race on the main street on Slauson. People do burn outs in residential areas. School's need improvement when it comes to bullying policies. They make you pay for parking when Huntington Park doesn't do that. It's hard to get parking permits if you are not tech savy or have any family that knows how to use computers. City Hall staff absolutely sucks because it is very difficult to get a hold of them. Properties are overpriced. You smell the nasty pig factory every night which is nausea inducing. There is poor air quality and Environmental control doesn't take action. The list goes on... Choose wisely if you wish to move here. Oh and people block driveways a lot.
