I have lived in Maurice, LA for two years now and i can say that my experience has been bitter sweet. I have heard back story that it is a very racist town and the police aren't so pleasant but my experience has been the opposite. However, when it comes to their elementary school, Cecil Picard Elementary, my son and I have been through a lot. He is now an Honor Roll student needless to say.
Many new neighborhoods are being developed in this area and increasing the quality of the homes. There are also many older homes in this are but are kept up for the most part.
