I've grown up in Maunawili. As a toddler, I played on the neighbor boys' swingset; as a teenager about to go to college, I go on daily jogs and visit the neighborhood cats. Overall, the neighborhood is quiet and peaceful, with beautiful views of the mountains on every side. There's sidewalks, which are sometimes rare in Hawaii, which was especially a plus for my parents when I was much younger. Most people are friendly, and I talk to a number of my neighbors often. The neighborhood is very safe, although there's recently been a series of break-ins. It was a wonderful place for me to grow up, and although the neighborhood isn't full of families, there are plenty and I had many friends nearby. Like everywhere in Hawaii, it's an expensive place to live, but my family is middle class and in general most of the houses are smaller and modest. The location means it takes a little while to even get to the grocery store, but twenty minutes is reasonable enough.
